Flextail Tiny Pump review
The Flextail Tiny Pump weighs 0.26 lb — 120 grams, less than a phone — and measured 62 dB at one meter, making it the lightest and quietest thing on our bench by a wide margin. It filled a queen air mattress from flat to firm in 2:10 and sucked it back down flat in 1:05. It will also do a sleeping pad, a pool float or a packraft in seconds to a couple of minutes. What it cannot do is inflate a car tire or a road-bike tire, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: this is a low-pressure volume pump, it stalls out around 20 PSI, and no amount of patience gets it to a 36 PSI car tire. Judged as what it is, it is superb.

On the bench
Our volume protocol is a standard queen air mattress taken from flat to firm, timed, then deflated with the pump's reverse mode. The Tiny Pump managed 2:10 to inflate. A dedicated mains-powered bed pump does the same job in 1:20 and a DeWalt 20V in high-volume mode in 1:35, so this is the slowest of the three — but it is also the only one of the three you would not notice in a backpack. Deflation took 1:05, against 0:50 for the DeWalt, and reverse mode is the feature that actually earns its keep: a queen bed rolled down to its stuff sack in one pass instead of five minutes of kneeling on it.
Camp gear is where the numbers get silly. A standard rectangular sleeping pad came up firm in about 35 seconds; a wide insulated pad took just under a minute. Pool floats, arm bands and a two-person packraft chamber were all a matter of seconds to a couple of minutes. Because the pump moves a lot of air at very low pressure, the more volume and the less pressure the job needs, the better it looks against everything else we own.
Noise is the number that surprised us most: 62 dB at one meter. For comparison, the quietest tire inflator on our bench is the Kensun at 68 dB and the quietest pocket unit the Fanttik X8 Apex at 70 dB. In a campsite at ten at night that difference is the difference between an apology and nobody looking up. It is a whirr, not a buzz.
Pressure capability is the honest limit. It is a volume pump with no working high-pressure gauge, and the only calibration check we could run was low: at 20 PSI it agreed with our reference within a PSI, and above that it simply cannot build. Our standard 28→36 PSI car-tire fill is therefore listed as not applicable rather than slow — the pump never reaches the starting point, let alone the target. A 700×25c road tire at 100 PSI is further out of reach again by a factor of five.
Battery life is quoted in gear rather than tires. On one USB-C charge we inflated a queen bed, two sleeping pads and a pool float and still had a segment showing; realistically it is a weekend of camping per charge, and it recharges from a phone brick or a power bank in about an hour. Ours has lived in a pannier for a season, been rained on, and still runs.
Design and usability
It is a cylinder about the size of a shotgun shell with a rubberised grip, a single button, and a threaded end that takes the supplied nozzle set. The nozzles cover the flat wide-mouth fitting most sleeping pads use, a tapered cone for pool toys and beach inflatables, and a valve adapter for bed-style mattresses; they clip into a small pouch that weighs almost nothing. Switching between inflate and deflate is a matter of moving the nozzle from one end of the body to the other, which is obvious in the hand and takes about two seconds.
There is a small LED lamp in the end cap. It is not a work light, but it is bright enough to find a tent zip, and on a device this small it costs nothing to carry.
The one design consequence worth flagging is that low-pressure pumps have no auto-stop worth the name. You listen to the motor change note as the mattress firms up, and you stop it. That is entirely normal for volume pumps and it is why the pressure discipline we teach for tires — set a target, walk away — does not transfer here. Who it's for — and who should skip it
Buy the Tiny Pump if you camp, backpack, bikepack or paddle and you are currently blowing up a sleeping pad with your own lungs. At 120 grams it passes the ultralight test that almost no powered gear passes, and it earns its place in our air mattress pump ranking on portability rather than speed. It is also a good household second pump: guest bed up in a couple of minutes, guest bed down and packed away in one, nothing to plug in, nothing to store but a cylinder in a drawer.
Skip it if you expect it to touch a vehicle. It cannot fill a car tire, a motorcycle tire, or a road-bike tire, and it is not a limp version of one — the machine is built for the opposite job. Anyone shopping for tires should be reading best tire inflators or, for two wheels, best bike tire inflators. Skip it too if a queen bed is your regular job and you have mains power nearby, because a dedicated bed pump does it in 1:20 for less money. Skip it for paddle boards: a 10'6" SUP needs a true 15 PSI, and the electric pumps in best paddle board pumps are the only sane answer. And skip it if you want one machine for beds and tires — that machine exists, it is the DeWalt DCC020IB, and it weighs eighteen times as much.
Versus its main rivals
Its rivals split in two directions. Against a dedicated AC bed pump it loses on speed (2:10 versus 1:20) and wins on everything portable: no outlet, no cord, no storage footprint. Against the DeWalt 20V, which is the genuine dual-purpose option, it loses on speed and on the fact the DeWalt also fills a car tire in 1:21, and wins on weight by a margin so large the comparison stops being useful — 0.26 lb against 4.8 lb bare, before you add a battery.
